Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire MIV Extra wires, dash switches, triumph spitfire

Question
Hello, I recently purchased a 1971 Triumph spitfire mark IV that had a partial restoration done to it. The person I bought it off of had stripped it down off the frame and fixed all the rust and body work, then put it back together.

The engine runs fine, but the issue is that the turn signals, hazards, dash switches, reverse lights and brake lights don't work. the lights themselves are all hooked up to the original wiring harnesses.

I found 3 sets of wires under the dash not hooked up to anything. They are all Green wires with other colors on them. Additionally there is a purple wire coming out of the back of the ignition. I am fairly sure that the issue lies with the wires that aren't hooked up, as the lights and connections at the lights is fine.

What I need to know is what these wires may be and what they should be hooked up to.

Would it make sense to draw power from a known lead line and connect it to these wires and see if I can make something turn on?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Answer
Hi Andrew,
One of the first things I learned working in the dealerships was to not even think about working on any electrical problem without a wiring diagram. You obviously don't have one so I put one up on my web site for you to copy.
I also learned quickly to only work on one circuit at a time.

Go to http://mg-tri-jag.net/71Spitfire11x1.jpg  for the diagram and change the last part to
71Spitfire21x1.jpg for the index to the diagram/
