Triumph Repair: 1961 Triumph engines, chevy s10, triumph engines

Question
Trying to decide on rebuild or swap.  I hear that the Chevy S10
V-6 is a good candidate.  Ball park price I should expect for a rebuild of my original 4 banger.
Thanks folks.  Have a good week.
Sid

Answer
Hi Sid,
There is no way you can tell how much an engine rebuild is going to cost until you tear it down to see what is needed and if it is even worth rebuilding as some that I have torn down, I found that they were not worth rebuilding. Others can be rebuilt at a very low cost.
Only after tearing the engine apart and evaluating a possible rebuild can you make an intelligent decision on weather to rebuild of do a conversion. First read my tech tip on engine rebuild to see what is needed to be done.

Unless you are skilled at fabrication and have the facilities and equipment to do a conversion, a rebuild is almost always cheaper no matter how bad off the engine is.

A low angle V-6 does make a good conversion on most small sports cars but you should not attempt it without guidance from someone who has done one. Talk to John's Cars in TX as they have some kits to make conversions. They have a web site on the Internet.
