Triumph Repair: 1975 Triumph Spitfire, triumph spitfire, fuel mixture

Question
From a cold start my Triumph starts fine. After I drive it awhile and it gets warmed up, I can accellerate and I'll get some sputtering. If I come to a stop, it will quit on me. Sometimes I have to wait awhile for it to start again. Cecil

Answer
Hi Cecil,
Run it for a while and when it quits, remove the spark plugs and look at them to see if they are clean looking or covered with a flat black powder.

If they are flat black adjust the fuel mixture leaner (turn the 3mm Allen wrench counter clockwise) If they are If they are clean turn the Allen wrench clockwise. Never adjust the carburetor more than half a turn before checking the way the engine runs and when idling lift the spring loaded pin under the edge of the top pot to see how it reacts.
