Triumph Repair: TR7 water pump, triumph tr7, different gear

What is the easiest way to replace the water pump on a 1979 Triumph TR7.  Any suggestions, precautions & necessary tools to do the job.

Easy way? What easy way? All the Tr-7s have a gear driven pump in the top of the block. There were two different gear drives used in the span of the TR-7 and you can't be sure which you have. If you try to install the wrong one, you will destroy the jack shaft that drives the gear. Also there were different angle impeller blades that will not match the top cover if you are not careful.
Don't attempt to do the job without a service manual, the pump comes as a kit.
