Triumph Repair: triumph 1500 speedometer cable, speedometer cable, triumph 1500

Question
I am putting a new one piece cable in, car came without a cable, and I  seem to be missing some parts, I think. The output from the transmission is 1/4 " long piece of cable. The new cable has a rubber boot at the transmission end with the cable inside. What connects the two cables togather, is there suppose to be a sleeve that connects the two ends? or what?  I don't see any thing in the parts catalogs that looks like a connector.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Jahn,
The trans has a square socket and the square end of the cable goes into that socket. Some transmissions had a 90 degree angle drive but even those had a socket for the cable to fit into. None I ever seen had any piece of cable on the transmission end nor the other end either. All cables have a square end on each end and the speedometer and the transmission end have the square socket.
