Triumph Repair: hood prop, spitfire, hoods

Question
I have a 1979 Spitfire. I just purchased some new lower and upper rods for the hood prop. The problem is they did not come with instructions. I know where the holes are for them, but what way do they get installed? I tried one way, but think it's wrong. It seems weird when I snap it open and where it lands in the compartment seems wrong. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Mike,
I have opened and closed many Spitfire hoods but can't remember if it folds up or down and none of my manuals cover that. Since it can only go 4 ways you should fit it in place each of the 4 ways to suit you. The best I can remember is that the knee comes up when you fold it to close. Just temp fit it each way to make you comfortable. Seems to me if you try to make the knee go down it will hit something. Sorry, I don't have a Spitfire to look at, but I believe you will get down to only two ways.
