Honda: Adding Engine Oil, oil light, oil level

Question
(a) When I brake ('94 Honda Civic), especially if suddenly, the oil light flashes on briefly.  I've checked the oil level and it's virtually dry.  How much oil should I add to top it off?

(b) If I'm not sure whether the oil in the car is 5W-30 or 10W-30, does it matter which I use?

Technically the car takes 5-20 but if you live someplace warm where it usually does not get below 0 the w# does not mean anything I use 10-30 in mine.If you have no oil on the dipstick you can add abou three quarts without going over.If the oil is at the bottom of the dipstick add one quart and recheck.your car probly has some miles on it so you really should check the oil level at least once a week.
