Triumph Repair: generator, engine temp, voltage stabilizer

Question
Jim

Just replaced the generator in my 1965 MK2 Spitfire.  When I started the car the generator seems to be working OK but the gas and engine temp gages are not working.  Do you think the new generator blew a fuse or fried the voltage stabilizer?  I've had problems with the temp and gas gages before and it was the stabilizer.

Thanks

Jeff

Answer
Jeff,

How about some hard numbers?   Did you put a voltmeter on the battery car off/ car on?   With the car not running you should see roughly 12.5-13.6v at the battery.  With the car running it should be 13.5 to roughly 14.5v

With only 3 fuses, it should be easy to see if the fuse feeding the gauges is blown.

Since the stabilizer is the power feed for the fuel and temp gauges it's not unreasonable to suspect it's faulty also.

Cheers,

Jim
