Triumph Repair: Wheels, disk wheels, spoked wheels

Question
I want to put new wheels on my 1968 Triumph GT6.  It has 13 inch (rusted) spoked wheels now.  Can I put 14 " wheels on it?  Do I need wheels made for a Triumph or is the bolt pattern and wheel depth standard enough that any 4 bolt rim will do?

Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Garry,
Sorry Garry, I have never switched wire wheel to disk wheels on a Spitfire but I do believe that all you need to do is to remove the wire wheel adapter and measure the bolt spread and either just purchase a set of Spitfire steel wheels or search for a wheel with the correct bolt pattern. You will have to do a fit check as to the offset. (as I remember the Spitfire does not have much if any off set) As far as 13" to 14" you may have to go to a low profile tire to do that. Be careful about the amount of offset on the rear as the Spitfire is noted already for spring sag and if you get the rear wheels set out too far the spring will not be able to hold the car up to the correct height. Sorry that I could not just tell you to go get a specific wheel and all your problems would be over. Everyone who wants to change to different wheels has to face this.
