Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire 1500 overdrive, triumph spitfire 1500, shift lever

Hello, I have a Triumph Spitfire 1500 Overdrive the car hasn't been used for a few years so I bleed the clutch and goes into 1,2,3 and 4 gear but not in reverse. I was after some advice on how to tackle the problem, if i need to overhaul the gearbox, etc.

You need to be explain what you mean by "not in reverse" do you mean the shift lever will not go into the reverse position? Or the lever goes into reverse but when you let the clutch out nothing happens? Or when you put it in reverse and and let the clutch out the car seems like the brakes are locked up? Or do you mean that when you try to put the shift lever into reverse, it grinds and won't let you put it in?

Each is a different problem. Also, what year Spitfire is it?
