Triumph Repair: Triumph TR6 excess brake peddle movement, mechanical linkage, pivot pin

Question
Noticed you had this problem on your TVR some time ago.  I have it on a TR6 belonging to a customer, did you ever resolve the problem?

Thx John

Answer
John,

I suspect you're thinking of one of the other experts, but I'll toss out some ideas anyway.

Excessive travel means either the mechanical linkage(s) are loose or there is an issue with the hydraulics.

Mechanical linkage(s).  Look for wear in the clevis pin and the end of the brake pedal.  Also, the chromed pushrod into the master can also wear.   And don't forget the brake pedal pivot pin and bushing might also be worn.   The cars are 30+ years old now.

Hydraulic issues:  Air in the system is one possibility.  Also rubber brakes hoses that are swelling (ballooning) can cause greater brake pedal travel.  Last thing to check are the rear drums.  If the shoes aren't adjusted properly part of the pedal movement is used to push the shoes out to contact the drum.

Cheers,

Jim
