Triumph Repair: fuel line, vent line, carbon canister

Question
picked up a 77 spitfire, the fuel line was off, but in the trunk.   i see there is an inline restricter..where does that go.   by the fuel pump?, or by the intake to the carb.  or on the over spill of the carb...  the previous owner took the carbon canister off, but i attempted to reinstall it.   running the gas line from the carb to one side, then from the cansiter to the overflow, back to the tank.   when i run the engine, i get gas coming from the canister.   i think the needle valve in the carb is bad, and am waiting for replacement parts.   it seems to flood when the engine is shut down....but runs ok after i dry out the plugs.    do you know the float level measurment setting.   its a single side draft...think its a stromberg....what are the settings that i should start with to tune the carb.    finally, can i eliminate the carbon canister...if so, do i remove the restrector that is going to the fuel tank( in the rear of the car).   a diagram would be great.  m number is   423- 403-3100   feel free to call if that would be easier.

Answer
The tank inside the trunk wall is an expansion tank for vapors and is part of the venting system, I'm not sure what you mean by inline restrictor.  There is no restrictor OEM I am aware of, they are all about 1/4 hoses.

For settings, emissions routing and float level, I would recommend getting the haynes guide on the ZS carbs and the spitifire, the drawing for emissions vary alot from year to year, and the haynes guide is good for the rebuild and setup of the ZS carb.

You can remove all the emissions gear if you state inspections allow it, and go right from the fuel pump to the carb, and plug all other lines or remove them (EGR, air pump, air injector lines, carb canister)  The only thing you really need is a vent line for the gas tank to allow air to replace the gas that is drawn out.

Hope that helps.
