Triumph Repair: Mixing and matching spitfires, rear axles, careful research

Question
I have several parts cars.  I think this will work but thought I would ask the experts first.  I have a 1978 and 1975 parts cars I am getting a 1973.  Will the front suspension, A arms, ect work off the 75.  Will the motor OD trans from the 78 fit?

Answer
John,

One of the neat things about the Spitfire is that with a big of careful research and planning, you can mix and match parts between model years quite a bit.

The front suspension a-arms were the same for all years.  The vertical links changed during the '60s, but for the years you've listed they were all the same from the factory.

The engine and o/d trans will fit in the '73, but you'll need to use the driveshaft from the '78.  The '73 should have the longer axles,  it's worth checking before swapping rear axles around.

Cheers,

Jim
