Triumph Repair: Triumph TR7 Stromberg CD 175 carb rebuild, channel lock pliers, throttle shaft

Question
QUESTION: Howard,

Do you know if the throttle shaft bores in the Stromberg CD 175's have one or 2 o-rings on each side ?  I've replaced the thick ones near the outside of the carb but I noticed what look like o-ring grooves closer to the throat of the throttle and butterfly.  If they were there, I may have blown them out during cleaning.  I didn't find any o-rings in my rebuild kit that would fit.
Also - should I use locktite on the screws holding the butterfly ?  They look like they were broken off at the ends to prevent loosening...

Thanks !

Steve.

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
I don't remember another seal there. I can't think of any reason to put two seals on each side.

QUESTION: Howard,

Thanks for your answer - do you recommend locktite for the butterfly screws ?  I read it's ok with gasoline...

   Thanks,

   Steve.

Answer
Hi Steve,
The factory recommends using a center punch on the threaded end of the screw after it is tight. Be sure to back off the throttle stop screw and hand force the throttle plate all the way closed as you tighten the two screws to center and locate the butterfly to it's correct position.
I never tried "Lock tight" but it may be an alternative to peening the end of the screw which is not an easy thing to do without endangering the throttle shaft. I found that I could use a pair of channel lock pliers to deform the end of the screw by squeezing the screw head to end thus locking the screw. I found that the screws were soft enough to deform that way thus locking it in place.
