Triumph Repair: Oil pressure (still), rocker shaft, press fit

Question
Scott

I recently asked you about the Oil Pressure on my TR6.(priming the oil pump) The Tr6 now starts and idles ok, but the oil that reaches the rocker shaft seems still to be not enough. I disassembled the rocker shaft and cleaned the holes in the rockers, but was unable to get the end plugs off the rocker shaft itself. Do you know what material the plugs are made of and how to extract them?

Thank you.

Answer
What makes you say the oiling is inadequate?

The plugs depend on who made the shaft; I have seen some that are threaded set screws, and others press fit steel or aluminum plugs, the latter being the more common.  As far as I am aware, the plugs are not intended to be removed.  Brake cleaner and then compressed air should be sufficient to get into the single main feed hole on the shaft.

If you want to increase the oiling to the rockers, look into the bypass kits offered; which you can easily make yourself.  Tap into one of the unused oil galley ports, and route a line to the capped port on the rear of the head.
