Triumph Repair: Axel shafts, axle grease, tr4a

Question
Hi Howard

I have the differential on my 1966 TR4A being
rebuilt. While it is out I want to inspect the axel
shafts (slip joints). Any tips on what to look for
or how to inspect?  Do the splines have to be
marked such that they are reassembled in the
same orientation?  Lastly, what should I use to
permanently lube the slip joint splines?

Thanks

Bob

Answer
Hi Bob,
The factory said to use Rocol Molytone 320 or Duckham's Q5648 grease. I don't know what the US version is, of those but any good axle grease should do ok, As for for alignment of the splines there is a master spline so you can't get it wrong. However, I would not get them mixed up with the other side. There is no such thing as "Permanently lube"
