Triumph Repair: 1980 spitfire, worn gears, roadster factory

Question
Hello,Is it better to replace the entire differential if
you can find a good one or replace the worn gears of the
one that in the car. And where do I find a quality rebuilt
differential. thank you Roland

Answer
Hi Roland,
Sorry, that is not a good question because it depends on too many different things. The only way to know if you find a good one is to open it up and do some extensive measuring and testing and you would have to be qualified to do that. To replace worn gears and probably bearings you would also have to be qualified to do that as rebuilding a differential is not a job for a non professional. Many professional mechanics can not successfully rebuild a differential. There is much more to rebuilding a differential than meets the eye.

If you purchase a rebuilt differential, you should buy from a reputable company with a known good warranty. I can't tell you who to buy from but you should ask the normal British car parts suppliers about it like Moss Motors, The Roadster Factory, Victoria British, Engel Imports and British Parts North West to name a few.
They all have web sites and toll free numbers.
