Triumph Repair: spit 1500 distributor/coil, dual point distributor, ballast resistor

Question
I am restoring a 1980 1500.  I have rebuilt the engine and am ready to put it back in.  I have a mallory dual point distributor and an after market Hi-perf coil that will fit, but I don't have the original distirbutor and coil..  Can I use these?  The book I have says that the later spits have a 6 volt coil. ?? What do you think.

Answer
You should be able to.  What you need to be certain about is whether your coil requires a ballast resistor to limit the current flow, and whether there is still a ballast resistor in the existing wiring in your car.  If your coil doesn't require one, and there is one in the car's wiring, remove it.  I've been told the later british cars with EFI used a 6v coil with a ballast resistor.  Most ballast resistors I have seen look like a square piece of white chalk with spade connectors, but they can vary.
