Triumph Repair: Manual Choke, choke, cable


Question
Scott, The choke on my 75 TR6 pulls out no problem and the car starts quite easily but when you try to push the choke back in it doesn't stay unless you get under the hood and push down on the levers where the cables are connected. Where do I start with this repair? Under the dash maybe?

Answer
1) return spring(s) on the choke on the carb.  replace or add a 2nd spring.  test by disconnecting the cable, and see if the choke returns after you move it.

2) my tr6 choke cable had a "twist" friction to hold the choke partially opened, you twisted the knob to loosen/lock.  "twist" yours and see if that is the problem

3) disconnect the 2 wires from the 2 chokes.  See if you can operate the cable when the cable is disconnected.  If you can't, then the cable is binding on return, and you likely have a kink & frayed wire that is catching...
