Triumph Repair: voltage stablizer, spitfire shop, voltage stabilizer

Question
Jim:

Thanks for all your advice.  Here is a new conumdrum.  I have a 1965 Spitfire Mk2.  The gas and temperature gauges have been acting erratically.  A friend suggested it could be the voltage stablizer.  My Spitfire shop manual says the stablizer if attached to the back of the speedometer.  So I bought a new stabilzer, opened the dash, looked behind the speedometer and guess what - no stabilizer.  Could it be somehere else or does the '65 not have one?  It was no where else behind the dashboard either.

Thanks

Jeff

Answer
Jeff,

All the documentation on the Spitfires indicates that there was a voltage stabilizer for all year Spitfires.

Looking at the back of the speedometer on your Mk 2, on the right side you should see at least a screw and a tab of metal in the speedometer body.  That's were the voltage stabilizer should be mounted.

It was fed from a green wire from the fuse and light green/green wire to the temp and gas gauges.

Cheers,

Jim
