Triumph Repair: Spitfire 1500 water temp and oil pressure, oil pressure gauge, spitfire 1500

Question
Jim,

I recently refinished my dash and replaced the stock temp gauge and sending unit with a new aftermarket one that shows the degrees.  I also added an oil pressure gauge.  Both are electric, not mechanical gauges.  I'm wondering what is considered normal temp and oil pressure for a spitfire 1500.  My temp is reading about 200 degrees. I recently replaced my thermostat with a 180 degree one, and oil pressure is about 40 psi when idling and up to 70 psi when driving.

  Thank you !

  Steve.

Answer
Steve,

Your oil pressure readings are spot on for a Spitfire 1500 in good health.

The water temp is a bit high, but you don't mention where you are located or if your car has the stock small radiator or the optional full width radiator.

Cheers,

Jim
