Car Stereos: line output converter?, oldsmobile aurora, stock speakers

Question
I have an 01 oldsmobile aurora and would like to keep the stock head unit and add an amp and sub. I ordered a line output converter (soundgate loc 42) and should be getting it in 2 days but I was wounderin; one thing.....it says to connect itto my rear speaker wires , so dosethat mean fully disconnect them from the speaker so I won't have the rear ones playing ? Or connect them to the speaker wire and have it still connected to stock speakers too? It has bose surround sound so it would suck if I had to fully unhook them jes for the amp,
thanx jake

Answer
Hi Jake,

When you're connecting a line-out converter, you don't have to disconnect the stock speakers.  The converter has a very high input impedance, so it won't affect the factory amplifier. Just tap into the factory wires without cutting them.

You're going to want to tap into the wires at the rear deck speakers themselves; it's been a while since I looked into the trunk of an Aurora, so I'm not sure how hard it's going to be to get to those wires (nor do I have exact information on the wire colors).  With the Bose system, though, the rear deck speakers are the only ones that carry a deep bass signal.  It may be easiest to tap into the wires at the factory amp location in the trunk, provided you can tell which wires run to the rear deck speakers.

Hope this helps!
