Triumph Repair: 80 Spitfire broken flywheel bolts, rod bearings, engine knock

Question
Hi I bought a project car started it a few times ran ok had an engine knock. went to start it to move it out of garage and starter just spun at high speed. Pulled motor flywheel bolts sheared off. motor turns easily by hand don't think motor seized and broke bolts.Anything else I shoulfd look for? The car has a 40DOCE and has nitrous bosses and hardware on intake maybe PO boosted flywheel off crank. Came with a spare used motor maybe I'll put that in and see if it runs while machine shop removes flywheel bolts from crank and fixes? ovaled dowel hole.

Answer
HI Jerry,
The machine shop should be able to drill the ovaled hole out to a larger dowel to fix. You can't use it with a loose dowel.
If nothing else was damaged, my guess is that who ever was in the engine didn't torque the flywheel bolts correctly even though Nitrous can destroy an engine very quickly. Inspect the rod bearings very closely and pistons.
