Triumph Repair: 1970 Spitfire mk3 brake master cylinder, girling brake master cylinder, rimmer bros

Question
Hi Howard, I am trying to repair a leaking Girling brake master cylinder. I have ordered the repair kit from Rimmer Bros. After removing the circlip and washer how do I remove the internal plunger and spring to get to the seals inside.

Answer
Hi Richard,
On the US tandem master cylinder there is a "tipping valve" that must be removed. Take the reservoir off and remove the internal nut holding the tipping valve in. Depress the piston and remove the tipping valve and the pistons can then be removed.

Be sure to clean and hone the bore before installing the new kit. Look closely for pits in the bore. It is no use putting a new kit in a cylinder that has pits in it because the pits will soon destroy the new seals.
