Triumph Repair: Replacing the speedometer cable, speedometer cable, triumph spitfire

Question
Howard,
I have a 1980 Triumph Spitfire with a broken speedometer cable.  I ordered a new one from VictoriaBritish.com.  I was told that the cable connected to the transmission and could be accessed from under the car.  Being the novice I am, I jacked up the car and could not find the exiting speedometer cable much less install the new one.  Can you explain to me how the replace the cable?

Thanks,
Bill

Answer
Bill, there is only one cable attached to the transmission and it is the speedometer cable. It is attached close to the rear of the transmission by a  nut on the cable as almost all cables are attached to all transmissions. Look again, if the old cable is still on the car just follow it to the transmission.
