Triumph Repair: 74 TR6 Distributor, point gap, pig tail

Question
Howard, I have a friend who has taken everything out of his distributor. I need to know how the insulator, point spring, and wires are hooked up. Thank you, Charles

Answer
Hi Charles,
The insulator should have 2 "hat" shaped insulators either connected together by a thin strap or have 2 "hats".
First over the threaded stud is an insulator with the brim first.
second is the spring over the top hat (thus insulated from the stud)
Third are both wires (Pig tail and condenser)
Forth is the other "hat" shaped insulator. (the small part of the hat should slide inside of both wires and into the points spring)
Fifth is the small metal washer and nut on the stud.
When you are finished neither the points spring nor the wires must make contact with the stud or nut.
Point gap is .015 in. on the high point of the cam.
I hope this helps,
Howard
