Triumph Repair: TR3A vapor lock, test test test, temp gauge

Question
In regards to my first writing, I cannot believe that my TR3 came off the show room floor not being able to go 5 miles on a 70 degree day without dieing.  The fuel lines are all stock.  My dad had a 51 ford that had vapor lock problems, but not untill it had about 90,000 miles.  Why does it happen to cars with higher mileage? I will check for dirt in the lines.  On a TR3 the steel line that comes out of the tank is directly above the muffller.  could I extend the rubber hose that connects the two steel lines together all the way up to the tank, that may insulate the suspect line above the muffler to the tank.  or eliminate it and use rubber hose instead. I have 3 lbs of pressure at the carbs when it does run, haven't checked yet when it is on the road dieing.  Also Moss has a heat deflector plate to bolt under the carbs, and maybe use rubber between the carbs instead of the stock steel line.  The temp gauge says 185. I would really like your oppinion.

Answer
First make sure it is vapor locking with a fuel pressure test when hot driving. Then work at correcting the problem. It can still be a pump failure when hot or a hundred other things. Unlikely a vapor lock on a 70 deg day.
Test, test, test, test then fix once = fixed car
Fix, fix, fix, fix fix = big bucks & possibly fixed car
