Triumph Repair: zenith stromberg float, e type jaguar, roadster factory

Question
Hi Howard,
My 64 TR4 has a bad carb float--it is cracked, and so causes it to run very rich (to the point that the sparkplugs become fouled).  Really impacts the drivability.  Any idea where I can get a usable foam float for the TR4 zenith stromberg carb?  None of the major parts suppliers carry this part; it is not currently being reproduced.  By the way, the previous owner tried to seal the float with some sort of epoxy or glue, which seems to just make the float heavier than it should be, hence the overly rich condition.  My mechanic, who has owned and raced triumphs, says it is beyond repair.  Thanks for any help you can give.
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
The TR4 & 4a used the 175cd stromberg as did many other British cars. I don't have the part number of each but I am betting the float is the same in many of them, ie.,
68 to 70 "E" type Jaguar and the V-12 Jags., Early Rovers, Lotus, even early Saabs, Volvos & late MGBs.
You need to seek out a local shop that specializes in British cars and take your float to try to match it up to one of the many different 175cd Strombergs. Did you try The Roadster Factory, Moss & Victory British?
Let me know.
Howard
