Triumph Repair: spitfire ignition, electric fuel pump, electronic ignition system

Question
hi jim. I ahve a 78 1500 spit that I have had for several years and never driven. my sone and i have begun to work on getting rolling, we have added an electric fuel pump, it works, we have no spark to the plugs. all fuses intact, what's next step?

Answer
Bucky,

The next step is to figure out which ignition system is installed in the car.  Originally it should have been the Lucas "Opus" electronic ignition system, noted for the black lump on the side of the distributor.  Some time in either late 1978 or 1979 the factory went to the Lucas system with the separate control box on the firewall ledge.

Then again, in 30 years there has been time for many owners to tinker with the car.

Figure out what you have then we can work to get it firing.

Cheers,

Jim
