Triumph Repair: Radio, aftermarket radio, oem setup

Question
I have what I think is a simple question. I have a 76 Spitfire.  I pulled out the aftermarket radio put in around 1980.  I am thinking of going with a period appropriate radio.  I found a radio from a 72 TR6 on Ebay.  Will this fit.  If I go with a modern CD player will I run into problems mounting it like having to cut the mounting plate.  And where on earth do you put the second speaker.  I know the mono one is mounted in the passenger glove box, but what about the other front speaker.

Answer
Matt,

If the radio from the TR6 fit without modifying the TR6 dash support then it should fit the Spitfire.

You might put the "other" speaker in the driver's side glove compartment, making sure you have a good grille to protect the speaker from anything put in the shelf.

Most aftermarket modern stereos are quite a bit smaller than the OEM setup, so you should be able to fit one in the stock location.  You'll have to get creative about mounting a DIN box to hold a new unit as the old radio relied on the two knob posts to hold it in.

Cheers,

Jim
