Triumph Repair: spitfire ignition, phillips head screws, machine screw

Question
I bought a '78 spitfire 1500 with no keys.
I am trying to take the ignition cylinder out to have a key made for it. I cannot figure out how this comes apart. I am a pretty good mechanic and think I know what I should be looking for, but I am at a loss here.
This does not look like any pics I have found on the web either. There is no small hole to insert a stab into to press the release button, not there.
Any ideas?
Thanx

Answer
Jamie,

It might be better to remove the entire lock assembly and take that to the locksmith.

The way to remove the lock on the later Spitfires is to drill holes up into the retaining bolts (round head with a rough section in the center... when they were installed at the factory the hex sided head was snapped off, making it hard for thieves to remove the lock.

One the lock assy is loose then carefully undo the electrical switch from the back end.  From the factory there should have been 2 tiny phillips head screws holding it to the lock.  If you're not careful then you wind up destroying the electrical switch, and they are not cheap when you can find one.

A parts specialist should be able to get you the correct security bolts, or you can use a regular pan head machine screw if you want the option of being able to remove it easily later.

Cheers,

Jim
