Triumph Repair: headlights and diff mount bushes, fuse block, dash lights

Question
Hi Jim How you been? I have a question my headlight are driving me crazy. On 1972 spitfire mk4 This is what they are doing. I turn my headlight switch to headlight on ,and the headlights do turn on but I have no tail lights dash lights or park lights on. I turn the switch to park lights on and nothing happens nothing turns on. so I just leave it there say 10 min or more and they do turn on its like I have to warm them up before they work... I replaced the switch from a Lucas with a new clear hooters switch and Didn't make a difference. I have had my head under the dash from front to back looking for the bad connections haven't found a thing that could make it short out wiggling nothing. any Ideas????

Do you have to remove the transmission cover to replace the front u joint?

thanks Jim for time I am so I talk to you again real soon.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Mark,

Unfortunately I'm not near my repair manuals with the wiring diagrams so I can't give detailed instructions.

If the parking lights eventually come on with the car parked then it sounds like the replacement switch is bad.  Was it a NOS switch or a "used but good" that you picked up?

Another thought is the fuse block... the curved metal tangs that hold the fuses in are all separate pieces, so it's possible to lose have the circuits on the fuse without the fuse being blown.  Again, I wish I had a wiring diagram handy to check.

As to the front u-joint.. yeah, you'll need to pull the trans cover to get access to the front of the driveshaft.

Cheers,

Jim
