Triumph Repair: rear hub removal., hub puller, haynes book

Question
Jim, sorry to bother you again so soon but am backed up in a box again.  I am trying to replace the grease seal on the left rear axel.  Since I don't own the "special tool" required to pull the flange and stud assembly I tried a hub puller.  Waste of time.  Then I removed the entire axel up to the u-joint and put it in a 12 ton press and tried to push out the axel shaft.  Went to the machines max capacity and nada, zip, nothing.  Since it has a key and the Haynes book says it has to be pulled (pressed), rather than screwed someway, I don't know where to go next.  I have been soaking it in PB Blaster all afternoon and guess I will try again but would appreciate any insite b4 I ruin the entire axel and have a large expenditure on my hands.  Thanks.

Answer
Lamar,

Sorry to say it, you need to get your hands on the proper hub puller, it's much cheaper than trying to buy a new axle.

What the proper hub puller does to to support the hub, keeping you from either bending the hub or cracking it.

Otherwise you can check with some of the vendors, they may be able to offer a reasonable rebuilt unit or recommend a rebuilder.

Cheers,

Jim
