Triumph Repair: Electronic points upgrade, ohm coil, electronic kit

Question
I just installed a Ignitor Electronic kit for my 1974 Spitfire, the kit says I should measure 3 ohms across the coil and I'm measuring 1.5 ohms is this ok to run like this.

Answer
Hi Bill,
If your new ignitor kit stated 3 ohms across the coil and you have a 1.5 ohm, you need to get a 3 ohm coil. A 1.5 ohm coil is too low in ohms and will conduct too much amperage through the new ignitor and probably destroy it. A 1.5 ohm coil is usually used with an external resister.
