Triumph Repair: Spitfire tandem master cylinder, haynes manual, tandem master

Question
Please can you let me know the correct orientation of the 4 seals in the master cylinder on my 1980 Spitfire? My manual is not very clear.
If I label them as #1, #2, #3 and #4 starting from the clevis/rod end and moving towards the back of the master cylinder, then I know that #1 is correctly installed with the larger dia (the sealing lip) towards the front but what about the other 3.
Thanks, Alvan Judson

Answer
Alvan,

I take it you didn't observe the orientations as you removed them?

Keep in mind that the seals create pressure when the sealing lip is leading as it's pushed into the master cylinder bore.

From memory on working on my '78 and from the diagrams in the factory and Haynes manual the sealing lips should all be leading into the master cylinder bore.

Cheers,

Jim
