Triumph Repair: 77 spitfire cataylic converter, test pipe, exhaust pipe

Question
Can I remove the catylic converter and all associated parts.  The catylic converter and exhaust pipe coming out of it is turning cherry red from heat when ever I drive the car.  I'm afraid that something is going to catch on fire. Everyone I have talked to says it is stopped up. What do you think?

Yes,I think it is a little on the danger side if it is getting red. they use to sell a "test pipe" for removing the converter of other cars but i'm not sure for that one. other than that if your inspection laws will allow put a header system on it and go with out it.Dave
