Triumph Repair: fuel, triumph spitfire 1500, mallory distributor

Question
Dave

I have changed teh plug wires, but not he distributor cap.  The distributor is a Mallory distributor with points.  The points seem to be good.  Also, how do I go about conducting a comprssor test?

I have a 1978 Triumph spitfire 1500 with about 85,000 miles on it.  In the middle of July, I changed the spark plugs gapped at .025 and all of a sudden, the car started to lose power and become herky jerky when I stepped on the gas pedal. Since then, I have had the fuel filter chagned, mikuni carb rebuild with new float, new spark plugs, new fuel pum, and new coil.  The problem still exists.  Do you have ideas where I might look to next?

Answer -
brian, someone has figured out a way to put a japanese carb on a british car. MIKUNI?. did you replace the plug wires? distributor cap?. can you do a compression test? that will answer some of this. let me know Dave

Answer
well as it happens alot unless all the stock parts are on it i can't help much more, but if you get a cheap compression gage take all the plugs out push the rubber part into the plug hole and with an assistant have them hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank the engine about 6 times. read the gage. compression is about 130. if you find 2 that are next to each other that are about 45 then it is a head gasket or a crack in the head.dave
