Triumph Repair: timing and idle adjustment, auto parts store, chemtool

        I have a 74' TR6 with the 2.5L and carbs. I was wondering what the timing is supposed to be set at. I was also wondering about what RPM the idle is supposed to be set at. It is dieseling when shut off that is why I am asking.

Josh, acording to the book, at an idle speed of 800 to 850 a timing light will show 4 degrees AFTER TDC. It sounds like it is advanced too much , but dieseling can be caused by other things also. Like carbon build up in the cylinders and on the valves.You might run some valve and carbon deposit remover thru it, just find one at the auto parts store that you like. Chemtool or Gumout are good ones. Dave
