Triumph Repair: Transmission Tunnel Cover, road debris, water road

Question
Hi,
I am replacing my original transmission tunnel cover with a new plastic one, should I take the insulation and edge seals off the original one and glue them on to the plastic replacement
that came without insulation?
THANK YOU!

Answer
Dick,

If you're lucky enough to have seals worth reusing, go for it!

Otherwise, using something like neoprene weather stripping (available from a hardware store) wouldn't be a bad idea.  Or if you're confident in your work, carefully clean the car body flange and RTV silicone the tunnel into place.  It'll be a bugger to get back out again but you'll eliminate one extra way that engine fumes get into the car.

You definitely need something to keep water/road debris/engine debris from getting around the plastic and into your carpets.

Cheers,

Jim
