Chevrolet Repair: removing rear brake drums, rear brake drums, truck chassis

Question
I have a 1993 Chevrolet Allegro Bay RV. It is on a 2500 series truck chassis with 454 engine. I would like to remove the rear dual wheel brake drum to replace leaking wheel cylinders.Plz advise on the removal of the brake drum itself.

Answer
Hi Bill.... take the bolts out from the axel. remove the axel. there will be a lock nut there. depending on the axel type there will be a lock ring and a square pin that will be in the slot cut in the axel housing... remove them. undo the nut, remove the lock plate then remove the second nut. tug on the drum to get the bearing out, then remove the drum... install is the reverse...take digital pics as you do it to help remember. don't forget to put in a new seal and refill the rear end with 80w90 gear oil when done....hope this helps
