Triumph Repair: trans, larry weaver, automatic transmissions

Question
Hello. I have 3 short questions about AUtomatic transmissions. (1). Can a transmission flush harm a transmission? (2). Why do no automatic transmissions have a drain plug like an engine? Only by changing the filter can a portion of the fluid be changed? (3). My car does not go into gear on cold mornings, why not? Thanks. Larry Weaver

Answer
Larry, automatic transmissions are what i know the least about but i can answer a little. I had the auto trans in my jeep flushed and filter changed at 64,000. it seemes to shift smoother after that and is good for another 64,000 and probably why there is no drain plug. not much maintenance req.my books list low fluid level as one cause of of not moving on cold mornings. other than that a pro will have to look at it. I replaced one on a porsche 924 ( i work on other kinds of cars as well ) anyway it was a good used trans and works great. Im going to take the old one apart maybe I'll learn something!! David
