UK Car Repair: Vauxhall Zafira fuel pump problem, long nose pliers, vauxhall zafira

Question
Hi

can you help? problem is :

I have a Vauxhall Zafira 04 plate 2.2 petrol.
The car was intermittently cutting out losing power and stopping. At first I could restart and it would be fine for a bit.
Then last week it cut out and it would not restart.
I tracked problem to the fuel pump which was not running, so I unplugged the relay and shorted out to put voltage direct to fuel pump, this started the fuel pump and car was fine, now I have checked the relay and that is fine so am now presuming there must be a fault on the control to relay but am now in need of help.
I presume there is a losse connection somewhere as initially it was an intermittent fault and now the losse connection has totally failed any ideas where I start looking ,

Thanks for any help

John

Answer
check the actual spade connectors from the slot in the fusebox that connct to the relay, make sure they're tight, squash them a little with long nose pliers if they look suspect.

otherwise check the relay through 50 operations, make sure it contacts each time - a bad relay, after being removed and knocked around can appear to be OK on the bench..
