UK Car Repair: LOUD TAPPETS/DIESEL LIKE, head gasket, renault 19

Question
Renault 19 1.8 16v petrol 1991 Jreg hatchback/3 door Engine F7P704

Hi, Thanks for trying to solve my last problem with my cams setup, i found out that you can put the dti gauge on either piston 1 or 4 (piston 1 being next to the trans).
Anyway the tappets are runing loud in my engine & so i took the head off & recently did some work on the head valves & lapped them in & also bled the hydraulics, in the tappets, of air. And upon startup the engine was running nice & smooth with no noise, but after 5mins or so a loud tapping noise has occured and stays when revving & even when warm? (Sounds a bit like a diesel).
Everything in the head is pretty much new (covered over 1000miles) as was tuned previously & the timing is spot on so cant be that. It has a new head gasket & the block was rebuilt little over 300 miles ago, so i'm still running it in at present but have stopped obviously due to the noise. I'm pretty sure its coming from the head & not the block, nearer the back if that helps.
So i i'm a little confused to what this could be caused by & was hoping you could help me out on this?

Any suggestions & opinions will be Much appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
oil-

did you drain the fluids before you first split the head/block, if not you would have gotten coolant in the oil, it only takes a little to ruin the oil - an airlock can also release and drop coolant into the block even if you do drain the fluids. check the oil between your fingers, make sure it has some strength to its film.

Any chance the oil is contaminated with petrol? (repeated start attempts/fuel rail emptying into block, other phenomenon)

Maybe a clogged oilway?

will think some more on this.
