Question
Hi, i have a Renault clio mk1 Kreg 1.8 16v 160bhp and ive got a couple problems, first when its ticking over it runs lumpy but its got piper cams and pulleys the previous owner said it always done it after the cams where fitted when you rev it revs normal only does it when its ticking over does that sound right, and my rev gauge aint working? dont know if this makes a difference its got piper cams and pulleys and chipped and remapped and magentor leads and k&n induction kit. thank you hope to hear from you soon cheers

Answer
yes, thats normal to run lumpy at tickover with aggressive cams - nothing can be done about it - the cam has the inlet valves open before the end of the stroke, thats what makes it lumpy.

as for the tacho, with the mods it's probably been overlooked, you'l need to make sure it's getting the pulse from the low tension side of the coil(s). I cant say which wire to check because it's likely been changed - if you're really stuck though I can get a wiring diagram of the clocks and if you show me a photo of the ignition setup I can tell you where to tap into and where to connect the tacho's wire.
