UK Car Repair: Gearbox Fault, jaguar x type, code scanner

Question
2002 JAGUAR X TYPE V6 SE AUTOMATIC. I have just had the "Gearbox Fault" come up on the screen, is it possible that the oil is low, it is always serviced when it should be at Jaguar, or could it be something else. The mileage is low, thirty six thousand miles. What other sensors are there that would show a fault!!!
Many Thanks,
Roger

Answer
Low oil can  bring on the light and so can a multitude of sensors.
Is there any oil left on the driveway?

- a diagnostic scan is required to find out which sensor/if it's low oil -
Most part shops carry a code scanner,m so phone a few and find a reasonable price £20 is just about fair, but you may get it for £10 if lucky and the odd shop does it for free.
- This will produce an error code, relay this to me and I can tell you what's wrong, though the mechanic/assistant who runs the scan may have some ideas. Tell what they say, I like a good laugh and it might be useful also.
