UK Car Repair: jaguar x type 2.5 se auto 2002 52, jaguar x type, throttle position sensor

Question
car seems to be having problems getting fuel......fuel pump seems to be working.....turns over fine but not starting....managed to start but cuts out when accelerator pedal is applied.....

Answer
A diagnostic scan is the first port of call, find a garage who can scan the diagnostic codes, without a scan i'm working blind.

Though I'm suspicious of the Throttle Position Sensor as a possible cause but dont quote me on that. I'd also check the air intake, filter and everything are fitted properly - Check the vacuum line coming from the inlet manifold, take it off and check it for leaks.

Check for inlet manifold leak.

Take off an clean every single connector under the bonnet, a spray with WD40 and unplugging replugging the connectors a dozen times each is very effective at restoring contact.

Make sure the oil is in good condition and isnt over or under filled.

Make sure you always try to start it with a perfectly charged battery, a half charged battery can make the ECU glitchy.

If you can spray some easy-start down the intake at tickover and open the throttle will it rev then? then you are sure it's a fuelling problem and not a lack of spark... nice trick I think.

---

At any rate have the codes scanned, hopefully you're not too far from a capable garage or part shop.

---

Also make an attempt to start the engine with full throttle 0 foot on the floor 15 secs of cranking, does that give any different results, tell me what happens.

---

One more thing, try starting the car with the throttle position sensor disconnected, the TPS is on the end of the throttle shaft, unplug it and see if the car will start and rev. tell me what happens with the TPS diconnected
