UK Car Repair: mk3 astra reverse lights, mk3 astra, reverse light switch

Question
hi i have a 1998 Mk vauxhall astra i.6 8 valve,
my problem is that my reverse lights don't work,
the rest of the lights all work and it's a real head scratcher,
i have looked for a fuse but there is no fuse i can see that works them please help, i am unemployed and simply can't afford an auto electrician

Answer
Hi Ian, there are three things it could be;

1. (most simple) bulbs, just replace them.

2. Check the wiring for a positive feed when the car is in reverse, if no feed is present, trace the wire back to the switch to locate the break (if there is one)

3. Reverse light switch on the front of the gearbox, test for continuity between the pins when the car is in reverse.

You can always take solace in the fact that the car does not have to have reverse lights for an MOT pass.

Good Luck - Paul
