UK Car Repair: Astra MK3 electrical problem, astra mk3, fuse boxes

Question
QUESTION: I just bought an astra mk3 diesel estate 2nd hand. Its an L reg.
I tried wiring up a car stereo & it wouldnt work so i disconnected it. I am not sure if any wires were shorted or not but i think not. Anyway I have now found that straight after attempting this the fuel gauge, temp gauge and the glowplug light and a couple more lights are no longer coming on. Also now unless the engine is running the electric windows dont come on whereas before they could be operated when the ignition was turned to the point before when the engine is started.
If anyone knows which part is responsible please help because i have looked at the fuses and sadly nothing is blown. Please help!!! (I would rather find out on here and buy the part than be ripped off by a electrician mechanic especially because i am currently unemployed). If you can help will help me a lot.

ANSWER: Hi Daniel, it seems to me that during the stereo installation, the ignition live was shorted and although you have checked the fuses, there are 2 fuse boxes on your vehicle. look under the hood/ bonnet and there is another fuse box with maxi fuses in it. one of theses will be blown. let me know how it goes - Paul

QUESTION: Hi Paul thanks for your advice. I have checked the external maxi fuses there isonly one and its 60 amps its not blown there is also a 30 amp thats ok too. Any other ideas?

Answer
Hi Daniel, I don't have wiring diagrams to hand but, you should check all the wires in the stereo hole and make sure none of them are touching the metal. if there is not a blown fuse then it may have burnt out a relay. You seem to have no igniton live to the windows and such, so we need to establish all the relays and fuses are working correctly. Can you test them? and get back to me because my hands are tied with not having the car to look at. - good luck -Paul
