UK Car Repair: rover 45, auto electrician, second guess

Question
i have a rover 45 2.0 turbo diesel 2004 ,in 4th and 5th gear when you put your foot flat on the accelerator the revs go very high then immediately drop back to normal,on acceleration at about 3000 rpm it feels like the engine is holding back ,when it reaches 3200 rpm it drives normally again ,there is no clutch slip and mpg is normal ,any ideas or help greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Ian, my first guess is a hole in the boost hose. When the turbo builds up pressure it blows out the hole instead of into the inlet and feels 'sluggish' or my second guess is the accelerator actuator causing an erratic acceleration. Start with the cheap fix and look for holes, get a friend to rev the engine while you inspect the boost hose for any hissing, if not then get an auto electrician to test your Throttle motor. - good luck - let me know how it goes. - Paul
