UK Car Repair: vectra door lock, three locks, junk yard

Question
I have a 97 2.0l CD vectra estate. All the door locks work on cental locking and individually except the passenger's which is is locked and the button is down and cannot be released manually or remotely. There appears to be no way of removing trim without the door being open.I need to carry a disabled passenger so I must have a working door!

Answer
Hi Mick, I had a '98 vectra myself and for some reason the passenger door lock always stick. You are correct that the door has to be open to remove the panel as the screws are in the edges. I take it when you lock and unlock the doors from the remote that the other three locks pop up and down but the passenger one doesn't ? When it happened to me it was intermittent  so keep doing the lock/unlock until it moves, alternatively buy a new door panel from a junk yard (and  door lock actuator) as you may have to destroy the door panel and unlock it that way (it appears that if you cannot lift the lock pin then the actuator is not only inoperative but also seized) and replace the panel with the one you bought. Are you sure that it is the lock and not the handle (inside or out) ? let me know how it goes - Paul
